Teddy Mitchell is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by The Football Factory star Roland Manookian. He is introduced into the serial in episode 6931, originally broadcast on 26 June 2024. Manookian's casting and character details were announced on 6 June 2024. Teddy is the secret son of Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford) arriving alongside both of his sons Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) and Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgerman). The characters are family members of long-standing characters Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Storylines

Teddy first appears when a nurse treating Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford) in hospital contacts him – Teddy is on the other line of a phone call, Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgerman) is sat in the backseat of the car reading as his older brother Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) enters the car abruptly, but is shut down by Teddy. They arrive at the hospital the next day and unknowingly walk past half-brother Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) and nephew Will Mitchell (Freddie Phillips). Teddy attempts to make contact with Stevie but the visit is cut short when Mo Harris (Laila Morse) enters the room. They follow Billy and Will home and watches them until they leave again. Billy and Will leave the house and Teddy sends Harry and Barney to explore. Teddy then finds a key under the plant-pot and lets himself in to search around but is caught by Billy's wife Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton). Honey threatens Teddy if he doesn't leave, she would call the police. Teddy does after asking after Stevie, still withholding his identity from the family. Teddy encounters Will in the square and begins to talk to him about Stevie and this is when Teddy realises Billy is the son that Stevie previously told him about. Will and Teddy are found in the pub by Billy and Stevie is forced to reveal his identity.

Billy is in disbelief and the family meet back at Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden)'s house. The family talk before it quickly turns sour as Teddy and Phil almost fight. Will admits it was him who stole Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold)'s charity money and caused Stevie to fall.

Development

Introduction and casting

On 6 June 2024, the production team for EastEnders had announced Roland Manookian, Elijah Holloway and Lewis Bridgerman had assumed the roles of Teddy Mitchell (Manookian), Harry Mitchell (Holloway) and Barney Mitchell (Bridgerman). The characters were created and devised as the secret family of Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford) as characters would see an exploration into Stevie's and these new characters backstories. Manookian also commented on his casting by saying "I've been watching EastEnders my whole life, so being part of it is amazing... Coming in as a Mitchell means you've got big shoes to fill, but it's a challenge that I'm happy to accept." He also expressed his delight to be working with other EastEnders actors. "It's a privilege to have the chance to work with the likes of Perry Fenwick [Billy], Steve McFadden [Phil], and the legendary Alan Ford [Stevie] – what amazing company to keep. Teddy is an enigmatic sort of fella with old-school principles, but he's tuned into modernity, too. It's a lovely part to get my teeth into." Executive producer Chris Clenshaw also said he was "delighted" about the intoduction of "a new branch of the iconic Mitchell family to the Square". Teddy made his first appearance in episode 6931, originally broadcast on 26 June 2024.
