Saphius is the alias of a Wikipedian who joined as a user of Wikipedia on 29 September 2007. He joined as a result of his first encounter with vandalism, which stated the challenge "edit this if you are gay" in the article Pokemon (anime). Since then he has vowed to dedicate himself as a wikipedian to fight vandalism in order to ensure that all articles are free of "all the blemishes that serve to compromise the very integrity of Wikipedia". Although he has tried helping in actual article writing, the bulk of his wikipedian work has been promised to be committed to counter-vandalism.
