The Basque type (in Basque: Euskal tipografia) is writing style to for the Basque language which is used within the Basque Country. It has strong association to Basque national identity and it forms part of the symbols of Basque nationalism.[1]

Generally it is written in bold.[2] This typographic style has been found in headstones and wooden furniture of the Medieval Era.[3] It was reintroduced in the early 20th century.[2][4][5]

It is only used to write in Basque. Moreover, due to the Roman origins of this writing style, it only has capital letters. It can usually be seen on stores, restaurants, bars and Basque produces, as well as in official organisations, such as in the Basque Government, or on certain town halls.[5] It has been used in traffic signs (such as in the A-8 highway) and street signs.[2][5][6]

It normally has a bold look. It is seldom used for long texts, since it can be hard to read.
