Using MMS for FAR notifications edit

It all looks very complicated, but once you do it a few times, you'll find it MUCH easier than it looks, and a real time-saver compared to doing manual notifications.

Steps edit

General
Before starting the FAR nom
  • Remember to edit the URFA page (WP:URFA/2020A or WP:URFA/2020B) to switch the Noticed entry to FAR followed by the date (sample)
  • Remember to remove the Notice from WP:FARGIVEN [1] (while you're there, you can edit-copy the notification diff to edit-paste it into the URL for your new nomination as in #Sample
Setting up the MMS targets
  • Go to the FAC for the FA you are nominating to find the name of the original nominator; add that to the targets (sample)
  • Go to the article stats on the FA, browse to find most active (and most recently active) editors, and add them to the targets page (sample)
    • Remember to check the article talk page for any very active editors
  • On the article talk page, grab the list of WikiProjects, copy them over to the targets page, and edit them to remove the trailing content, and add [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject ... in front of each entry (sample)
    • If you're new to this, click on each of your target samples to make sure you're sending them to the right place
Setting up the FAR nom
  • Copy-paste the noticed diff to your #Sample, eg [2]
  • Copy-paste the last version of your MMS targets to your Sample, eg [3]
  • Write your nom blurb at your sample, eg [4]
  • Initiate the FAR with {{subst:FAR}} on the talk page of the article
  • Copy your sample text with notifications in (making sure to leave the header info, and only replace from where the smalled notifications begin)
  • Add your nom to the top of WP:FAR
Send Notifications

Now the FAR nom is done, on the FAR page, and you're ready to send the MMS notifications

  • Go to the MassMessage send page and fill in
    • "Page or category containing list of pages to leave a message on" is your MMS target page (eg User:SandyGeorgia/MMStargets)
    • "Subject of the message" is: Name of article followed by Featured article review (this will appear as the edit summary, for example, FC Barcelona Featured article review yields this when sent)
    • "Page to be sent as the message" (leave blank-- no idea what this is, haven't used it)
    • "Body of the message": {{subst:FARMessage|articlename}} ~~~~
      • Don't forget to sign, and the FARMessage subst may need to be adjusted if it is a second FAR nomination)
    • Preview
    • Send ... done!

Sample edit

Notified: Mass Message Send notifications, talk page notice noticed 2023-11-01

The FAC nominator for this 2007 promotion has been gone since 2008, and the article has not been maintained to FA standards. Concern listed on 2023-11-01 include uncited text; inconsistent citation style; Wikipedia articles listed as sources; further reading and external links need pruning or to be worked in to the article; and incomplete citations. Much of the content is cited to dated sources and the article may be outdated.
