S. Samuel Ravi (India) is an Eastern educational thinker and philosopher. He has been influenced by the doctrines, philosophies and deeds of great personalities like - Gautam Buddha, Jesus Christ, Socrates, Confucius, Karl Marx. Rousseau, Froebel, Ivan illich, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa. John Dewey, Thomas Alva Edison and Rabindranath Tagore. He studied Education and Economics very deeply. He is a practical thinker and criticises the present economic, political and educational systems. He advocates equality in socio-economic distribution s. He opposes castes and religions but has faith in humanity. He is the author of a philosophy called "Awakenism" which is very important in the materialistic society.
LIFE OF S. SAMUEL RAVI
Samuel Ravi was born and brought up in the middle class family at Middalam Village in Kanniyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. His father Mr. S. Selvamony belonged to a Hindu family and his mother Mrs. M.Dhasammal hailed from a Lutheran Christian family . Therefore, he was brought up in the Christian beliefs and values. He received his primary school education from St. Antony High school, Karungal. He lost his house and properties due to the sickness of his father. At this situation, Rev. Fr. G Alphonse, the first Parish Priest, St. Antony’s Church, Karungal helped him to pursue his higher education. So, after his primary education, he joined St. Joseph 's High school , Chellamkonam for higher education. He was an average student but poor in English and Mathematics. However, he has completed his secondary education success fully. Then, he studied the pre- University class (P.U.C.) and completed his degree course in Economics. He realised the importance of English language and drank it deeply. He did the post- graduation and M.Phil. research studies at Scott Christian college, Nager coil. He obtained M.L.I.Sc. degree in Library Science from Annamalai University and M.Ed. degree in Education from Madurai Kamaraj University. He was awarded a doctoral degree (2014) for the thesis SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT ON HIGHER EDUCATIONAL CHOICES submitted to M.S. University , Tirunelveli. He undertook various careers such as Assistant Warden, Librarian, Teacher and Assistant professor. He worked in Malankara Catholic College, Maria giri ,Kaliyakkavilai, James College of Education, karungal, Immanuel Arasar College of Education, Edavilagam and N.M. Christian College, Marthandam, South India. He married M. Esther, working as Teacher in Ponjesly Matriculation higher secondary school, Nagercoil. He has two daughters named S. Velma and S.Olirma.

He has introduced various concepts such as-Social pollution, disguised democracy, social cancer, complicated minds and social hazards (2015) to highlight the impact of contemptible and undesirable human activities in the social and natural environment s.
PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHTS
- Life is a gap between the date of birth and death, which may be short or long, happy or unhappy, poor or rich but make it useful in the social environment s.
- Man is measured in terms of money in the materialistic world.
- Man is more important than God, religion, and language.
- Death of a man teaches the reality of life but nobody listens that is problem of living.
- Book is the cheapest wealth which makes the user richest in the earth
- Success of education exists not in the pass or fail but differentiating the literate from illiterate in character and developing a secular-democratic outlook.
- Divinity and Satan/ devil's are the two sides of man, the excess of which would reflect his personality
- The attempts of man-making may fail in the absence of character formation and development of human values, and when intoxicants, anti-social activities and obscene-violence centred media influence the child more than anything in the social environments.
- Man's over-whelming emphasis on materialism, exploitation of natural resources, production of non-degradable substances , and involvement in contemptible activities have turned him into a monstrous machine and a cosmic pollutant.
- Philosophers shape education into a powerful tool for man- making but governments and individuals use it for money- making.
- What India needs today is not industrial, technological and political changes, but corruption free , dedicated and casteless-secular human resources in all respects to raise her status in the world.
- Man naturally believes in God due to fear, feebleness, illness , death and eternal life , and for prosperity and happiness. So , his life is a pendulum between materialism and spiritualism.
- Education, religion and politics are inter-related and profit- oriented industries in the monetary world.
