I've been training in the combative arts continuously since 1980. I started in wrestling at Valley High School under Coach Modrcin and later began the study of Karate after I enlisted in the Navy between my Junior and Senior year. After graduation I have been privileged to study some of the most amazing martial arts from instructors of high caliber.

I wrestled for one season as a walk on at Iowa State University under Coaches Jim Gibbons, Ed Banech, and Les Anderson where I wrestled at he 167 pound weight class with Kevin Jackson and Michael VanArsedale. I began my studies in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Judo under Grandmaster Yong Chin Pak where I earned my first Black Belts. Since leaving Iowa State University in 1990 I have continued my martial arts studies and while I still practice Taekwondo, Judo, and Karate, it is the Way of Coordinated Power that has held the center of my training.
