Olufuko festival site at Outapi 2012.

Olufuko is a female initiation,under which girls between the age of 16-20 have to go through in order to become mature and marriageable women..The town of Outapi which is the capital and administrative center of the Omusati region hosted Olufuko festival for the whole region from the 21-27 Auguste 2012.The main objectives of Olufuko festival were to inform,educate and entertain with the view to appreciate and enhance traditional and cultural identity.Create awareness within the region through cultural,arts and agricultural activities.Preserve and promote culture and tradition and to attract people from within the region and visitors from other parts of the country in order to develop Omusati region.The founding president of the Namibian nation H.E.Dr.Sam Nuyoma has accepted the request to become the patron of Olufuko.One of the reason is that whenever he is addressing the Namibian nation on aspects related to traditional norms and culture,he always emphasize that”the nation without a culture and tradition is not a nation”.
