The 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade (42nd SMDB) is a brigade-sized military unit of mechanized troops of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed on January 25, 2023.
Prerequisites
editIn February 2022, Russian aggression against Ukraine began. After the defeat of Russian units near Kyiv, Western partners significantly increased the volume of military assistance, providing the latest types of weapons. The training of Ukrainian military in partner countries and their return with the received samples of weapons and military equipment allowed the formation of new units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In January 2023, 42 separate mechanized brigades were created.
