Morningside School of Musicis a notable music school residing in the affluent South West of Edinburgh, Scotland, serving the local community through private musical tuition and annual philanthropic ventures. The school is a community focused orginisation with their mind set firmly on enriching the surrounding local area through music and project funding.

History

Morningside school of music is owned and directed by Polar Flame Music ltd, which was founded in 1999. The group originally was involved in the Management field of the music industry, representing musicians, music marketing, PR and publishing: now focusing primarilly on musical instruction and working closely with local charities[1]. The school has been well established with the local council in providing a joint effort to educate a variety of age groups and skill levels.

Morningside School of Music is actively involved in many community projects in the Edinburgh area,and has established close links with charities such as:

The school regularly gives free lessons and runs regular competitions to ge children in the community more actively involved in music creation. In March, 2009, the school gave away £10,000 of free music lessons[2] to children in the local area. The general manager at the time of the charitible donation was quoted as saying "If it is giving the local kids a chance to become a budding pop or rock star, it's worth it."

This sentiment seems to be close an accurate representation of what the school stands for as they made a further donation 10 times the size of the original. In July 2009, the school donated £100,000 of free lessons[3] to children in the local community and acted as a spokesperson for other educational establishments in the area, advocating free lessons as a positive measure to increase the skill set of the community, but also to improve interaction and stimulate the social economy.

Morningside School of Music is responsible for producing the 47th biggest selling artisit of the 21st century, Sandi Thom who has commented on the school in her own Wikipedia page.[4] She is quoted as saying that "I can really appreciate the methodology they promote when teaching" and that "the staff and facilites are amazing!"

The school is also supported by many industry professionals and academics, including Ronnie Gurr, former creative director of V2 Virgin and Sony Records, and Dr Murray Cole, director of studies at Edinburugh University.
