Wikipedia to launch Waray Wikipedia Edit-a-thon today in Catbalogan City with an aim to upload important information about Catbalogan City and Samar in Waray-Waray tongue to the world wide web's free encyclopedia platform.
Organized by the Wikipedia Sinirangan Bisaya and facilitated by the City Government of Catbalogan, a select set of participants were invited to be the Key Board Warriors of the event composed of Students, Teachers, Historians, Media and Civil Servants.
The initiative is expected to contribute on the tourism initiative and internet presence of the city.
In a statement, Jojit Ballesteros of Wikipedia Sinirangan Bisaya informed that the Eastern Visayas leg of the edit-a-thon started on November 28, 2015 in Palo. Leyte, and the second leg is today in Catbalogan City, and on December 2, 2015, the group will proceed to Catarman, Northern Samar.
From Ballesteros, Waray-Waray dialect is the Number 8 among top languages in the World that attained more than a million articles in Wikipedia, Number 6 is Cebuano, while the rest are from other countries.
