There are ten main sources of chitin found in nature:

• Arachnids
• Arthropods – crab, shrimp, lobster
• Myriapods
• Seaweed – green algae
• Insects – locust, silkworm (chrysalis), mosquito, butterfly
• Coelenterates – hydrozoa, scyphozoan, actinozoan
• Molluscs – Gasteropods, Mellibranch, Scaphopoda, Cephalopods, Amphineura
• Annelids – Archinnelida, Chaetopoda, Hirudinea
