Kwando Lebala Camp
editLebala Camp is situated 30 kilometers to the south of Kwando Lagoon Camp and fronts onto the Linyanti Wetlands of Chobe National Park.
Lebala means wide open spaces in Setswana and the scenery around Kwando Lebala Camp is dominated by different plains with palms and trees backed by wooded savannas. This wild expanse is contrasted with the casual elegance and luxury of the camp itself. The eight spacious tents are different and were made specifically for the camp. The tents have e bathrooms with Victorian clawfoot bathtubs, "his and hers" washbasins and flush toilets[1]. The bathrooms lead out to a enclosed open-air shower with hot and cold running water, powered by gas for hot water needed by guests. Each tent has its own sundeck, and is set back among the trees. Lebala has a staff complement of 22 to cater to our guests. Lebala is famous for its Elephant sightings as is neighbouring Lagoon Camp, located 35 kilometres to the north. In fact, the Kwando Reserve is home to more Elephant than the entire country. There are many:
- Impala
- Kudu
- Zebra
- Wildebeest
- Tsessebe
- Giraffe, Sitatunga, Sable, Roan, Buffalo, Bushbuck and the smaller antelope. Kwando also provides refuge to Red Lechwe, Waterbuck, Warthog and the shy Sitatunga Antelope. In fact, Lebala has been delivering very reliable Sitatunga sightings for a year now (just near the airstrip)[2].
The major predators are Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild Dog and Hyena are usually found in the camp.They are also a number of different species of birds. When guests drive night time,they get a chance to see many animals[3]. With all these in place Kwando lebala camp can attract and provide accommodation for vast number of tourists and generate income to contribute to a country’s GDP.
