User:RiaGailU/Habagat or South West Monsoon

The South West Monsoon, also known as "Habagat" in Tagalog, is characterized by hot, humid weather with frequent thunderstorms and heavy rains. Monsoon winds may originate in the countries of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore and blow across the southwest region of Asia. The Indian Ocean may also potentially be the source of the monsoon rains. The monsoon season might begin in the month of July and last until September or October. It also can gain strength every time there is a typhoon in the Pacific Ocean close to the Philippines.

Typhoon edit

An area in Metro Manila that experiences flood due to the Typhoon Ondoy.

Typhoon Ondoy was responsible for flooding the whole area of Metro Manila last September 26, 2009, due to the spillage in the Marikina River in Marikina City. Thousands were evacuated because of the flood. Even central and southern Luzon was badly wrecked because of the typhoon. Typhoon Ondoy and the monsoon rain damaged millions of lives because of its flooding. Because Typhoon Ondoy was able to absorb the southwest monsoon, it made its impact stronger to the point of reaching the Red Warning Alert or Torrential condition. The Marikina River water level even reached up to 20.5 meters because of it.

August 2012 Southwest Monsoon, Typhoon Haikui edit

Many individuals in Metro Manila were taken off guard by the rapid flooding and rise in water levels of the Pasig River and Marikina River, which reached 19.5 meters, between August 6 and 8, 2012, in Metro Manila. Due to the disaster, Pasig City, Quezon City, Marikina City, and Manila were all affected by flooding. As a result of the prolonged, heavy rain that fell in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Southern Luzon for more than three days, the majority of these regions were affected by flooding.

August 2013, Typhoon Maring edit

The typhoon Maring and the Southwest monsoon joined forces, causing a great flood in Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Southern Luzon. Many rivers have overflowed, like in Binan, San Pedro, and Santa Rosa, Laguna. This resulted in heavy traffic on the South Luzon Expressway. The North Luzon Expressway has also been affected in the Meycauayan, Bulacan area because of the non-stop rainfall and Marikina River overflow that reached 20.0 meters, more severe than what happened last August 2012.
