PsychJava (Version 1) is a free set of Java functions for programming psychophysics, psychology, and vision research experiments. It allows academic researchers to develop experiments in Java as an alternative to existing software packages, such as PsychoPy for Python programming or Psychtoolbox for MATLAB. See Comparison of behavioral experiment software for even more alternatives.

Java is platform independent and runs identically on all platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.). As such, PsychJava is also platform independent and is suitable for any operating system on any platform. This further contributes to its universal applicability to a wide range of behavioral psychological experiments.

PsychJava Version 1 is released under the Free Software license.[1]
