John owns property in St. Louis, MO. He has rehabbed several buildings in the Shaw Neighborhood, all on the 4200 block of Russell Blvd. He has also been a member of the Garden District Commission, which has worked to develop the area around the Missouri Botanical Garden, since its beginning in 1997.

John is married, has four children and nine grandchildren. All but one child and his family live on the 4200 block of Russell Blvd.
