I am a systems engineer working on realtime interfaces for a commercial company. I have extensive experience in designing and fielding realtime embedded computer systems for high end signal processing applications. While I use software to get the job done, I do not consider myself a software developer, as that title is for data entry folks. Someday, software will be seen for what it is, a tool, not a discipline. In my opinion, there is no such thing as computer science ay more than there is a science for any other tool such as a sewing machine. When the internet bubble popped, it showered the planet with software types that had no engineering expertise, which found their way into all sorts of engineering disciplines. It shows, because we now have a culture of hacks that tap out code instead of designing the application before coding. Text based coding is being used for entering design ideas rather than creating it first and typing in the code later. As time goes on, I hope to get back here to enter more information that might be useful for others to help understand why my edits are the way they are.
