I was born in Daulatpur, Kanpur, UP, India on February 3, 1947. My parents were Mr. Ujagarlal Misra and Mrs. Bhagawana Devi Misra. I had two other brothers and a sister. After my primary education in Daulatpur, I moved to Kanpur for further education.I attended Junior High School, Collector Ganj, where my father taught Sanskrit. Then, I joined BNSD College for my High School education. In 1963, I joined the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and received a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Indutiral Management Engineering in 1968. I came to the USA in 1970 and earned a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering in 1973 from Texas A&M University, College
Station. After my Ph.D. I taught as an assistant professor at Texas A&M and the Univeristy of Houston. In 1978, I joined Bell Labs as a member of techical staff. In 1983, I moved to Bell communications Research (Bellcore) after the Bell System Divestiture. I stayed at Bellcore until 2002 while moving up the management ladder to an executive director. In 2002,I moved to Montclair State University and became an associate professor in the School of Business.In 2007,I became a full Professor of Management and Information Systems. I am married to Purnima Misra since 1972 and have three daughters, Ruchi, Smita, and Punita. Ruchi is married to Nick Hailey. Punita is getting married to Anand Pandya on June 26,2010. We are blessed to have a grandson Kiran.
