The AM-17 (Russian: Автомат Малогабаритный, romanizedAvtomat Malogabaritnyy, lit.'assault rifle compact', English: compact assault rifle) is a Russian compact assault rifle designed by Kalashnikov Concern as a potential replacement for the AKS-74U. It is chambered for the 5.45×39mm cartridge.[1] It is based on Kalashnikov Concern's MA prototype, itself based on a prototype of the same name designed by Yevgeny Dragunov.

The AMB-17 (Russian: АМБ-17; Russian: Автомат Малогабаритный Бесшумный, romanizedAvtomat Malogabaritnyy Besshumnyy, lit.'assault rifle compact silent', English: suppressed compact assault rifle) is an integrally suppressed variant, chambered for the 9×39mm cartridge, designed as a potential replacement for the AS Val and VSS Vintorez.[2]
