The NEC School of Continuing Education is a department within the New England Conservatory School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and is headed by director Dr. Erik M. Gregory, PhD.[1] It is designed to make available the resources of a leading music institution to the public, despite their musical background. The School of Continuing Education offers a variety of certificates.[2] They began offering online courses as of 2009.[1]

Enrollment edit
Many of the courses at the NEC Continuing Education school is available for open enrollment, they can be taken for credit or non-credit. However, to be enrolled in one of the certificate programs, or any course that is based on performance, a placement process is involved.[3]
Certificate Programs edit
General Certificate edit
The General Certificate is a 24 credit program including required and elective courses. The courses include the fields of music history, theory, private lessons and ensemble. It can be completed in one year of full-time study, or the student me elect to take up to three years.[4]
Advanced Certificate edit
The Advanced Certificate requires 39 credits and would take two years to complete. It is a continuation of the General Certificate.[4]
Jazz Certificate edit
The Jazz Certificate is a comprehensive 48 credit program includeing classes such as Jazz Theory, Composition, History, and Ear-Training as well as private lessons and ensemble.[4]
Kodály Certificate edit
The Kodály Certification Program at the conservatory is awarded by the Kodály Music Institute. It is a program that focuses on education in music and the training of music teachers. The areas of study in this program are: pedagogy, solfege, conducting, materials' analysis and musicology. [5]
