I was a Mid Stream Apprentice in that I was in the first intake in 1960. the new decade. The RCASC soldier apprentice program ran from 1953 to 1967. The first RCASC soldier Apprentice sworn in Dec 1952 is Hal Swain who went on to retire as a Colonel Pilot of Chinook Helicopters. Soldier Apprentices of all corps were initiated with the purpose of filling the Void of Junior and senior NCO's being released due to attrition after the Second World War and Korea. The program exploded with apprentices reaching the rank of General,indeed one RCASC Apprentice went on to become "Secretary of the Council and Director of the NATO Ministerial Task force" Bernie Goetze 1959-1961 Apprentice.
