-first black gold-mining site

-one of the earliest locations where African Americans settled during the Gold Rush[1]

-most left by 1852 to nearby gold fields

B. Location

-was originally a sandbar on the south bank of lower American River

-located in Folsom, CA on the American River

-today's recreation area is on the opposite side of the American River

C. Today

-part of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area

-used for hiking, biking, running, camping, picnicking, water-skiing, etc. [2]
