Introduction
editJigs and Fixtures are used in machine tools in order to increase productivity by reducing cycle time. The jigs and fixtures will be designed with features such as easy location with self alignment and clamping arrangement therefore reduces job setup time. The Poke Yoke (Mistake proof) concept will be incorporated therefore improper loading of component will be totally eliminated therefore reduces wastage or scrap.
Jigs
editJigs are used in metal cutting operation such as drilling, reaming, tapping etc. The operation will be carried out by guiding the cutting tool therefore the part will be accurately machined. The word jig can be defined as " Job Integrated with Guide"
Fixtures
editFixtures are work holding devices used to locate and hold the work piece rigidly for various operations like machining, Inspection, etc. In Fixtures cutting tools will not be guided. The word Fixture refers to fixing a structure
Types of Jigs

- Sandwich Jig
- Trunnion or Turn over jig etc.
