User:Ponyo/BLP talk project/COIPROMO

@Jytdog and Doc James: I have an ongoing personal project where I review BLP talk pages for BLP violations; in doing so, I've come across a few articles that are clearly targets of UPE and/or SPA COI. Although the BLPs below are not related to the medical field, I know you both are interested in UPE and COI editing so I thought you might want to watch this page in case you're interested in taking a look at the articles I come across. If not, no problem at all! Cheers, Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:05, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Yes the number of such articles is significant. I typically only tag the worst of the worst. Not sure what to do about this problem really... We are having more and more trouble picking up socks based on CU. And sourcing requirements to support notability are very low. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:13, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping! Watching, and will follow up on pages you identify. Interesting and important project - people forget that BLP applies to talk pages; thanks for doing it and this extra step too. Jytdog (talk) 17:16, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Also pinging @Smartse: as I know you do a lot of work in the COI/UPE arena. You may be interested in taking a look at some of these articles.Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:24, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Articles with significant WP:COI or WP:NOTPROMO issues that don't need immediate BLP intervention

Cleaned

edit
  • William Allen (artist) - rife with embedded ELs, odd flow contrary to WP:LAYOUT, created and heavily edited by an SPA account.
    • This and Barbara Westermann were probably created and elaborated by same (socking) person who ~appears~ based on usernames to be William Allen (her real life partner, per the articles). Both were mostly copied from their professional websites and were promotional - I have nominated both for speedy per copyvio and PROMO. Jytdog (talk) 17:46, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Abeer Almadawy - plenty of WP:PEACOCK and inappropriate tone. Multiple SPAs were used to add promotional material to the article.
    • Cleaned up what existed as well as I could; there were actually no sources. I checked to see if I could find any independent refs to create a valid stub but found none, so nominated for speedy as a promo page - had been turned into a personal blog/ad for the person. Jytdog (talk) 18:22, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Hector Almaguer - talk page acknowledges the article was created by a COI editor. Some puffery and inappropriate tone.
    • Sourced only from press releases and edited heavily by disclosed conflicted or SPA accounts. Speedied. Jytdog (talk) 18:34, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Kai Altair - littered with promotion/puffery culled from Altair's own website.
cleaned but N is marginal... Jytdog (talk) 21:25, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Steve Alten - a large "critical response" section edited by the subject himself, redundancy in the "film projects" section and ELs that don't seem to have any real connection to the BLP subject.
All cleaned up - thanks Jytdog!Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:10, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
speedied/promo Jytdog (talk) 00:36, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Mark Altman (speaker) - Tone so inappropriate it almost reads as a hoax. Create by a sockmaster and edited by its sock.
speedied/promo Jytdog (talk) 00:36, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Jason Altmire - edited by User:MoorePhin who clearly has an undisclosed COI; their contribs should be double checked for NPOV etc.
vetted for COI by Jytdog.Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:01, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Amanda Overmyer - the majority of the article is unsourced and the overall tone is inappropriate
cleaned. ugh, fancruft. Jytdog (talk) 00:33, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
cleaned. This was very interesting and rewarding! Jytdog (talk) 02:39, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Néstor Amarilla - TNT? Written by an SPA (User:Marta.Fendrich), the article is promotional down to its studs.
cleaned. needed the firehose. Jytdog (talk) 03:59, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
Tidied this one up substantially.Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:09, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Daler Ametist Even taking the language difference into consideration, this needs to be pared down substantially. Generic awards such as "Good Musician" don't mean anything if they can't be disambiguated to a notable award. Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 16:39, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
