Hello all,

I am a brand new Wikipedian who's just itchin to fill in a few gaps. I love the idea of the Wikipedia, but it does seem a little complicated. I'm still figuring out all the etiquette and style rules so I welcome all corrections and, if you like, you can give me a short description of the reason here. It will definitely help me learn and grow as a Wikipedian.

Currently I am a graduate student studying polymer science. I have some experience with latex emulsion synthesis. These areas are where I hope to contribute primarily so check them out and let me know what you think.

This section is devoted to general wikipedia methods that I'm still fuzzy about. I'll post my uncertainties and maybe some of you can post clarifications.

  1. At what point should a new page be created? I know that it shouldn't be created for just a definition, but what if the definition becomes elaborate and would be a convenient link between various other pages related to it?
  2. What if two different pages are basically for the same thing, but have evolved individually and each contains valuable info? Example is polymer and polymerization. It seems to me like either they should be left alone, or someone with significantly more experience with wiki pages should be involved in somehow merging the two.
  3. If B and C are subcategories of A and someone has created a page defining B with the definition of A, what is the best way to clear things up?

This section is just for any general comments or questions anyone has. Look forward to speaking with some of you. PolymerTim 04:28, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
