Probably the best site around when it comes to reliable population figures for cities around the world. German site, run by Thomas Brinkhoff.
Great site with a lot of statistical information (areas, population) for the countries of the world. Presents a useful breakdown of administrative units for many countries. The site has also a lot of other useful charts.
A very useful place to find information about the administrative units around the world. Has also a lot of background information, and information about past & present changes.
The United Nations population projections for urban areas around the world. The latest edition is the 2007 revision. You can here find a.o. population projections for urban agglomerations with over 750 000 inhabitants in 2007.
