I am a current Master's student at NYU, specializing in archaeology and lithic analysis. My research focuses on flake shape variability in an effort to better understand decision-making during prehistoric stone tool production. Through 3D modeling of flakes created from experimental studies, I observe variables that skilled knappers can directly control, such as those involved in creating the platform of the flake, to determine to what extent variations in flake shape are the direct results of individual choices regarding desired final flake shape.
