The Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation (NamibRe) is a government-owned reinsurance company in Namibia created by statute.

Overview

The mandate of NamibRe is to provide reinsurance services and to minimize the placement of insurance and reinsurance business outside the borders of Namibia.

Furthermore, NamibRe was created to become a vehicle for empowerment and enhanced participation by Namibians in the financial services sector of the economy.

History

NamibRe is a state-owned corporation established by an Act of Parliament, the Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation Act (Act 22 of 1998), published as Government Notice No. 224 in Government Gazette No. 1949 on 9 September 1998. [2] NamibRe became operational in September 2001.
