Susanne Pfalzner (* 1963 in Michelstadt, Germany) is a German physicist who initially worked in plasma physics with a focus on numerical simulation. Since around 2003 she has worked primarily in the field of astrophysics. She received her doctorate in 1989 at the Technical University of Darmstadt[1], then worked at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Great Britain (1989–1990) and at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung in Germany(1990–1995). From 1996 onwards she was at the Friedrich Schiller Universitaet, Jena and completed her habilitation there in 2000.[2] She then worked in various positions (professorship, private lecturer, university lecturer) at the University of Cologne until 2010, where she received the venia legendi for theoretical physics in 2003.[3] From 2011 to 2015 she held a Minerva Professorship at the [[Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy] in Bonn. From 2016 to 2018 she taught at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. She has been researching at the Jülich Research Centersince 2018 and is also a visiting scientist at the MPI for Radio Astronomy.[4]

According to Web of Science, Pfalzner is (as of March 2022) the author of 83 scientific articles that have been cited over 1,500 times (h-index 23).[5]

In 2020, the physics department awarded her the faculty teaching award in the field of physics.[6]
