The 2012 phenomenon is a present-day cultural meme that is about the world ending because the Mayan calendar ends in December 2012. Their is not much known about this prediction but there is one stone which reads:

Tzuhtz-(a)j-oom u(y)-uxlajuun pik
Uht-oom Ek'-...
Y-em(al) ... Bolon Yookte' K'uh ta-chak-ma...

Which translated reads:

The Thirteenth b'ak'tun[Note 1] will end
Black ... will occur.
(It will be) the descent(?) of Bolon Yookte' K'uh[Note 2] to the great (or red?).[1]

Scientists have been looking for reasons on how the world could end. Since 1998 the galaxies have been aligning.[2] The process causes the Earth's axis to wobble a few degrees. People have connected the two together claiming that the slight wobble will make Earth lose its orbit around the sun. Alien invasions, natural disasters and nuclear war have also been theorized as potential causes of the end of the Earth. [3]
