Red Light edit

The red light is one out the three lights from the traffic signal used on the roads. The red signal is known for stopping a car from proceeding. After the yellow the light the red signal come on. The red light constantly changes due to being on four-way intersection roads to male traffic much easier. Without the light, the road would just be disorganized. Like the red light there is a sign that does the same. It is known as the stop sign. One thing that makes the stop sign unique is that is a universal sign. Almost everywhere you go the color red with letter will you make you stop.

History edit

The traffic light began when the increment of car accrued on the roads. There has been many earlier designs and products of the traffic light. One of the earliest traffic lights was a device that had arms that would extend to signal to stop and caution. This device was from London, England 1868. In the United states, some of the one of the first variation of the traffic lights happened between the years of 1912-1914 in Cleveland, Ohio and Salt Lake City, Utah. The traffic signal from Utah was created in 1912 by a police officer named Lester Wire. His variation of the product was a wooden box with the standard colors: Green, Red, Yellow. It was hanged on the wire of trollies. (“First electric traffic signal installed.” ). In Ohio, they wanted to fix the problem of their busiest street so in 1914 they hired the American traffic signal company to fix it and used James Hoge buzzer design. (“When was it invented?”) Another traffic light was made when an officer from Detroit Named William L. Potts wanted to fix this issue. He used the colors of green red and amber railroad lights with electrical wire to make the traffic light that was controlled. This controlled traffic light was placed on the corner of Woodward and Michigan avenue in Detroit 1920. (Traffic Light History) The stop sign can be dated back on the 1914 when the sign of the roads began. Like the traffic light the stop sign was founded in Detroit Michigan. It was deigned to have a white background with black lettering. In 1922 the association of highway officials (AASHO) had to make the stop sign official. People were getting confused on the road. They want to make a sign to let the people know they had to stop. They scraped the original design of the sign and made one that had eight side. They made this one with black and yellow coloring. It wasn’t until 1934 when the they changed the colors. They said they would have wanted to be red or yellow with black letters. It was kept like that for twenty-seven years because in 1971 they changed the colors of the sign again to the red background and white letters. It became a law so it was forced to change. (“History of Stop Signs: Legal Stop Signs, Yellow Stop Signs and Red Stop Signs.”)

Breaking Road Rules edit

There is no real way of getting around this law. Police car patrol the roads and they have cameras at traffic lights. The cameras are used to take pictures of your car when you run the red light. They work using censors that loop and if you cut the loop off them the camera takes the picture. The camera actives when the it turned to become the red light. (“Traffic Light Speed/Camera explained.”) You can receive a fine of about four hundred dollars other states. In the state of Illinois, the average fine for running a red like is seventy-five dollars. (“Ran Red Light.”)

Social Impacts edit

One of the biggest problems with the traffic light is people don’t obey the red light. They run them a cause serious harm. The biggest one is car accidents. In the year if 2015 more than seven hundred people died and about one hundred and thirty-seven thousand people were injured. Over the half of those were pedestrians who were the victims. It is say that about every 20 minutes a red light is ran. In 2016 the AAA Foundation for traffic safety server a group of people and about 93 of the people say it not okay to run the red light. It almost everyone says that it is not okay to run a red light why do they do it. (“Red light running.”  ) This barrier can be followed or not followed but through the years people have changed the what it means to be a red light or stop sign. If you obey and stop your life can safe while trying. If you are safe you can be in hit due to the other people not stop for the red light.
