Journalists Are Being Attacked For Reporting the News... Journalists are currently being attacked and assaulted for trying to report the news in Egypt. The news has always been observed internationally since the beginning of communications but recent activity in Egypt is attempting to stop reporters from spreading global news. The civil war in Egypt has left the rest of the world concerned and worried about their current status and reporters are flooding in to cover the story. Numerous attacks ranging from stabbings, beatings, threats, and robberies are attempts to stop the news from spreading. The controversy revolves around whether or not Hosni Mubarak is in control of these attacks because they seem to be organized. Mubarak was noted saying that reporters are apart of the problem during this issue which raises alarm whether or not he is involved. A Swedish journalist was reported to have been stabbed during a threat to stop reporting the ongoing situation in Egypt. One day had a total of over 26 assaults and different events that involved journalist being robbed of their equipment. The Egyptian government has been stating that it does not condone violence and continues to say they have no involvement but speculation is still ongoing. State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley reported that "I can't tell you who is directing it but with the increasing number of instances of people roughing up journalist(s), cars attacked, offices broken into, journalists detained, these do not seem to be random events"[1]. The outcome for Egypt is still up in the air but with increasing threats to reporters it seems that coverage may not be able to remain consistent. Reporters have not given up despite all of the attacks still ongoing in Egypt. The news has to be covered and even when danger is ongoing, journalist are still trying to send the news to the world.
