Concordia College(Windhoek) edit
Concordia college is a secondary school in Windhoek,Namibia which is situated in Pioneers-park along theB1 road and is bordered by Hochland-park on the northern side and Rockey Crest on its west.
History and current states edit
The school was opened in 1983 and was build by the then diamond giant company CDM. The school operated under this company and then under NAMDEB after CDM was changed its ownership to to NAMDEB as a private school.Concordia college was then later sold to the government in 1996 after the company realized managing it was too much due to its location and that of the school.Concordia College's plot is also well known for its diamond shape which was initiated by CDM as away to represent the diamond company. The school caters for learners from grade 8-12 and has large classrooms that provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning for learners from different background all over the country and is ranked one of the good performing schools in the country. Apart from the English language the school also offers Otjiherero and Afrikaans as second languages and offers German, French as foreign languages. Concordia offers natural science subjects, social science and commerce subjects respectively.This school has a partner school in Germany : the Graf Adolf Gymnasium in Tecklenburg, a city not far away from Münster.Concordia has a hostel for both girls and boys who cannot afford the everyday transport,live far from school or which find studying at home a problem and has a very well equipped school library plus an information centre to help learners with their homework or finding important information related to their schoolwork.
Sports and Facilities edit
The school offers extramural activities in different sports such as soccer,netball,basketball,volleyball,hockey,chess an rugby is soon to e introduced at the school as an additional sport in order to cater for all students.The school has been doing very well in sports like soccer,netball and basketball and has won several trophies recently.There is also a debate club at the school and debating is also as an extramural activity for those learners that like argumentative discussions.The school also hosts an annual inter house athletics were learners are put into different house groups and challenge each other in different athletic codes for the annual trophy.The school has state of the art sports facilities and is one of the many reason why even Civics football club has chosen its sports grounds for their training sessions.
