Andy (born November 1965) is a Scottish-Canadian scientist known for his work with statistical computer models, physics, and open source networking.

Early Years

The youngest of three sons, Andrew Ignatius Hodgson was born to James Hodgson, a geophysicist from Fife, Scotland and Irene Hodgson from Dumfries, Scotland. He was raised in Calgary, Canada and attended Ernest Manning Senior High School.

Career

Oil and Gas While completing his studies in physics, he worked at a variety of jobs including boat loftsman, doorman, photographer, and delivery truck driver. Following graduation, he worked at a leading energy industry research laboratory where he designed testing equipment and wrote numerous computer programs for analyzing gas chromatographydata and automating data gathering systems - he claims he once automated a summer student's daily job down to a single keystroke.

Moving from the laboratory to the wellsite, he spent several years as a drilling fluids engineer in Western Canada and the United States. Following this, he worked as a reservoir software specialist until he left to form his own company in 1999 through which he consulted to a research laboratory in Houston Texas.

Insurance Hired to investigate an oil well blow-out by a London insurance underwriter, he spent several years working to advance and develop better scientific tools for "cause and origin" investigations for the insurance industry. The most significant of these, the Tempus model, has been used extensively by New York and London underwriters to reconstruct pipeline pollution contamination claims. The advancement of this work led Hodgson to write a premium calculation program (SubSum) for use by energy industry insurers.

Present He presently works for an analyzer sales company for whom he developed (with Paul Bond) the QMS computer system for tracking business functions.

Personal Life Andy and his wife Stefanie live with their 5 cats in his childhood neighborhood of Wildwood. He is an avid supporter of Borussia Dortmund , Liverpool FC, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He attended grade school with Owen Hart and was a high school friend of Hollywood screenwriter Micheal Johnston.
