Eva Shaver: Eva Shaver graduated with her doctorate degree from The National Medical University. [1] The National Medical University was a credible university until it was closed by the department of health soon after Dr. Shaver received her degree. [2]

Dr. Eva Shaver lived with her son Clarence Shaver in their Chicago home. She worked as a midwife while her son Clarence Shaver owned an "abortion parlor" to sell abortion pills. [2]

In May of 1915, a young man named Marshall Hostetler met up with Clarence Shaver and asked for a pill to cure his lover, Anna Johnson, of an unwanted pregnancy. [2] After finding that thee abortion pills did not work, Clarence requested that the couple pay a visit to his mother Dr. Eva Shaver, the midwife. [2] Dr. Eva Shaver was 25 years old when she severely botched the abortion and in effort to cover up the mistake, she and Clarence made it appear as though Anna had committed suicide. [2] It was not until the next day when W.C. Harvey, a roommate at the Shaver home, discovered Anna Johnson's body and reported it to the police. When the police arrived at the Shaver home, Dr. Eva Shaver claimed that she had hired Anna Johnson as her housekeeper recently. Dr. Shaver claimed to have been working at on a house call when she committed suicide in her sons room inside their home in Chicago. [2] However, the police were very skeptical of Dr. Shaver and began to look below her floorboards for aborted babies that she might be hiding. [2] The police finally noticed that the revolver in Anna Johnson's left hand belonged to Clarence Shaver. [3] The bullet that killed Anna Johnson entered the right side of her head, which puzzled the police because the revolver was found in her left hand.[4]

Following the trial, many newspapers combined with the press emphasized the dangers of abortion and midwifery. Midwives were blamed by politicians and the press for the problem of abortion in the country. The 1915 campaigns against abortion caused enforcement of the criminal abortion laws. In Chicago, police arrested more physicians for abortion than ever before. With the new enforcement of abortion laws, Dr. Shaver was held for trial for Anna Johnson's death. [2] Later in 1916, Dr. Eva Shaver was again found guilty of murdering Lillian Glovenco during an abortion, an 18 year old bride and with this murder Dr. Shaver was able to be connected to the death of Anna Johnson. [3]

In 1916, Dr. Shaver was found guilty of murdering Lillian Glovenco, an 18 year old bride. Along with this murder, Dr. Shaver can connected to the death of Annie Johnson ("The day book").

Dr. Eva Shaver was a midwife; and her son Clarence Shaver, owner of the "swellest abortion parlor in town". Marshall Hostetler was Anna Johnson's lover; he tells the story to the press: Anna told him that she was pregnant and the two planned to marry, and she asked if there were some sort of pill she could take in order to relieve her pregnancy. A few days later, he met up with Clarence, Dr. Eva Shaver's son, who sold the man abortification pills that would "fix Anna fine". Then, when the pills did not work, Clarence requested that she see his mother, Dr. Eva Shaver.- When abortion was illegal

The revolver found in Anna Johnson's hand was said to be Clarence Shaver's.

Dr. Eva Shaver graduated from "National Medical University" (The Illinois Medical Journal).

Shaver graduated from a "notorious" medical school shut down by the board of health. She claimed that she hired Anna Johnson as her maid and had recently committed suicide. The police already suspected that Dr. Shaver was using this excuse to cover up a badly performed abortion. The police continued to look for "dead babies" underneath Shaver's floors. -When abortion was illegal
