Omungulumbashe

edit

It is a place located south of Outapi about 36 km along the gravel road D3612 and signposted from the village of Tsandi. It is the first site where the first shots of the liberation struggle were fired in 1966. Deep in the forest, southwest of the former Namibian President's birthplace, this is place where a group called the PLAN (People Liberation Army of Namibia)[1] combatants were attacked by South Africa soldiers because they were betrayed by another group of soldiers who, later emerged, has been trained in espionage by the South Africans in the 1950s. It really is the middle of nowhere, far from any main routes or villages and not a hint of landscape, the countryside is flat, scrubby and branchy of mopane woodland. Before setting their opponents' surprise, the PLAN fighters won the battle of Ongulumbashe and the struggle for Namibian independence was shinning.
