The Atomic Aggies are a School Club at New Mexico State University (NMSU). The collegiate rocketry team at NMSU was founded in 2014. Each year the team designs, builds, and flies a high powered rocket at the Spaceport America Cup.[1] They have placed in the top 10 schools of the competition, including #1 in New Mexico earning them the Chile Cup.[2]
History
editFounded by students in 2014.[3] In 2017 they competed in the Spaceport America Cup for the first time and placed 58th.[4] During the 2022 competition, they placed 9th overall, and 1st in New Mexico.[5] The New Mexico schools hold a regional competition at the same time for the Chile Cup, a smaller version of the Spaceport America Cup first prize.
