EVELYN (THE SUICIDAL)

LOGLINE:

A young lady (Evelyn) is entangled in suicidal thoughts which eats deep into her all night due to difficult life challenges. Little did she know that her success story was just few steps away.


TWIST:

Evelyn is a lady of 27 years old who gets frustrated by life challenges and the pressure from her parents who expects so much positive results and unrestrained success from her based on their investment in her academics.

The pain of unemployment and the challenges of job hunting, interwoven with a broken 5 years relationship with Chris only makes her suicidal. Meanwhile, a huge and golden success is just few steps away from her.


Synopsis:

Evelyn is a single lady of 27 years, multiple life challenges leaves her with no choice but that of taking her own life.

She has sleepless night as she continues to ponder over her sad days and misfortunes in life. She remembers her parents unending abuse and lack of belief in her future. Their expectations from her, which despite her efforts has not been met.

She recalls the abuse and embarrassment received while job hunting.

She remembers the betrayal from her friend Sandra and how Chris abandoned her after 5 years relationship.

She is lost in thought, her garri leaks as she walks home looking rejected and dejected, but brought back to herself by a girl in the neighbourhood.

She battles all night with suicidal thoughts, multiple reason why she should die cluster her mind. But at the same time, more reasons why she should live also finds its way into her mind. She is left in confusion, but only yells for help.

She is woken up by a knock on her door, its’ her parents. She has not visited for a while, so they brought for her multiple envelop which her father believes is from her church or some useless friends who won’t let her be. But, to their surprise, the parcels are all appointment letters from different companies.  Her sorrow is mixed with joy yet overwhelmed by tears and the knowledge that she would have taken her own life, she only sits in silence while her parents celebrates her new dawn.


Director’s Biography

Director Oluchi Omai grew up in the city of Calabar, Cross River State Nigeria and joined the Jasper Theatre at the age of 13 where he was acquired film making skills. Amidst studying Statistical Science in the University of Calabar, Omai has been attended several filmmaking classes on directing. After being involved in a few production crew both as a director and a crew member, and gathering experiences, Omai took up the  task to direct the short drama film ‘Evelyn’ a short film produced in Calabar. This film is his latest directorial work. Oluchi Omai relentlessly looks forward to directing his feature film. His main career goal is to direct a feature film for a major production company.[1]
