The Temple of the Warriors is a Mayan temple in the ruined city of Chichen Itza in the Yucatán Peninsula. It is named this because of the many columns around it that have bas relief carvings of warriors. It was excavated by The Carnegie Institute of Washington in the years of 1925-1928. Although all that remains today of this structure is the stone foundation columns and walls it was believed to have an elaborate roof system made of wood, which has decayed in the long time since the city was in use. The structure was built around a previous structure called the Temple of the Chacmool.
