ONETHIKA
editI am from a small village called Onethika. Onethika is a settlement in the Oshikoto region in the North of Namibia. It is 10 km from Olukonda and 35 km from Ondangwa. People from Onethika are Oshindonga speaking people originating from the Ondonga tribe. Johny Ya Kasita Iitope is the headman of the Onethika village. Mr Darius Shongolo is the counselor of Onethika aswel since Onethika forms part of the Olukonda constituency.
LIFE AT THE VILLAGE
editThere are no medical or health facilities in Onethika but the people travel to the Ontananga village clinic for madical care. The children attend school at Ontananga senior secondary school or at Onantidha primary school. Because town is so far, some of the villagers decided to open cooka shops where they sell all necessary products the other villagers neeed to survive. This helps them save transport money or saves them a long walk to town as there's always no transport available.
HOW MOST VILLAGERS SURVIVE
editMajority of the villagers are unemployed men and women. They make their living by working in each others fields or selling food products such as meat, fish, kapana and many other products. Those that are lucky have jobs at neighbouring towns such as Ondangwa,Oshakati and Omuthiya as housekeepeers, bar tenders, builders, teachers and nurses and some are also successful business men and women.
I'm so proud of where i came from because people in my villlage are very independent people. They live with what they have and they handle life challenges as they come.
