The Amerivision Song Contest 1986 was the thirty-first edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Rede Globo. The edition was hosted in the Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.
This edition saw the return of Bahamas, Colombia and Panama to the contest, however, it saw the departure of Argentina, Barbados, Guadeloupe and Venezuela. Argentina departed in protest of its recent poor placements, Barbados and Guadeloupe for budget reasons, and Venezuela as protest for Ilan Chester's low placement in the 1985 edition.
The winning song was "Powerline" by Lee Aaron, a song that broke records at the time, most notably, it scored 153 points, making it the song with the highest score ever achieved at the time, the first song to surpass 150 points and the song that gave canada its sixth victory, making it the country that won the contest most times, breaking its tie with Brazil.
This was the first edition to be hosted by two presenters instead of one, those being Glória Maria and Sérgio Chapelin.
