It is intended to serve as short help to the Wikipedia seminar at ETH.

General

edit

The Tutorial answers all basic questions like i.e. creation of a user account (see registration), editing or formatting.

Developing your article will be the next step. Citing correctly is mandatory and easy [1]

Images

edit

Adding images is possible by creating your own images.

Before you add an image to an article, view the image's image description page to make sure its copyright status is clearly stated, preferably with one of the image copyright tags. You can easily upload your own files which is the easiest because you hold the copyright in case of digital images which do not show third party property.

If you want to use an image which is not your own work or shows third party property, you have to

  1. request the owner for permission, it is best to include a
  2. template of the letter of consent with your email-request
  3. Once you get a positive reply you submit a permission request. While waiting for the confirmation you can already use the image.

You can also link images for download.

and here the list of commons uploads.

Remarks

edit

Some remarks on the sandbox.

  • The wiki sandbox is per definition a test area.
  • It´s a good idea to put your growing articles in the sandbox until they are finished but your user page is also fine.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

Here you see the result:
