I am currently (1998-Present) a high school student receiving dual credits for my academic classes taken at Everett Community College and singular fine arts credit at my host school, Arlington High School. My primary interest in conservation and sustainability of my natural environment lead me to my present volunteer position as a Youth Ocean Advocate Interpreter for the Seattle Aquarium. I am strongly committed to all subjects of academia, specifically STEM fields, and hope to continue studying my favorite subject, calculus, as I attend a 4-year university. My other hobbies include individual and symphony orchestra performance on the flute, writing, playing tennis, and volunteering in my local community. I aspire to one day be part of the marine science professional world, and so far have 3 years of marine conservation volunteer experience, one diving license, and large dreams. Wish me luck!

Article Review edit

I visited the Seattle Aquarium page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: missing information, missing citations, and potentially biased sources.

Information edit

A reliable and useful Wikipedia page has several sections, some more thorough and longer than others, but all with a comprehensive understanding and connection to the topic of interest. The Seattle Aquarium page has two total subject sections, one vaguely describing its history, and the other giving a very brief overview of the major exhibits. From working at the Seattle Aquarium, visiting the their website, and visiting the other websites cited on the Wikipedia page, neither of the sections presents are particularly thorough or describe this institution in its entirety. The first and foremost change I would make to this page would be to fill in and perfect the factual information present.

Citations = edit

As well as the number of different websites cited, there are several instances of information unsupported by citation. The History section on this Wikipedia page is supported by two sources, both in the first paragraph, whereas the paragraph immediately proceeding does not show any evidence of citation. The Exhibit section has multiple sentences of text, many containing statistical information, that are similarly lacking citation.

Sources edit

Although it appears that there are 14 different sources supporting the information on this page, 10 of them are simply different articles found from the same website: the Seattle Aquarium’s website. Also, one of two total citations in the History section of this article, which refers to information concerning the management of the Seattle Aquarium, is cited by the Seattle Aquarium’s own website, and should be cited by at least one other less biased source.

Summary edit

In appraising this article, I saw great potential for the existing information to become more accurate and convenient to all Wikipedia users interested in learning more about this topic. With more citations of varying sources and a deeper description of the Seattle Aquarium’s multiple facets, this Wikipedia page could be just as reliable, and more current, than any depiction found in a traditional Encyclopedia.
