Rural district - a local government unit in Poland in the interwar period. Rural districts existed in Poland also after World War II. Were liquidated in 1975. Considered recreated in the context of the reform of local government, which came into force from the beginning of 1999. One of the concepts discussed for the establishment of two types of districts and municipal estates. Finally they created districts only one type, without any adjective in the name.

The term "rural district" is also applied to the contemporary existing districts, but it is not an official determination.
