History

edit

In October 1999, ICE was founded by Yuval Sigler , the publisher of the magazine The Communication. As the online version of the fax newspaper "Paper Tiger" which he published and was the first website in Israel dealing in the field of marketing and advertising.[2] The site's name was the initials of its coverage areas "Information, Communication, Entertainment". Upon its establishment, the site offered its contents and access to a number of services on it, for a fee to subscribers only. This, with the exception of the possibility of posting ads on the job boards and jobseekers, and in the company index , which were free for all.

In January 2001, the ICE company sold half of the shares of the Internet company, which was involved in the distribution of the legal newspaper "Paksdin", to the "Ko Menaha" company, and operated a website of the same name.[3]

In March 2002, the site changed its appearance with a new design and changed its revenue model by opening up to the general public and began offering its contents that appeared in the "main newsroom" under the name "Ice News" for free. At the same time, an "Appointments" category was launched containing a database on executive appointments in the largest companies in Israel and an "ICE Plus" corner, which was merged with the company index (which remains free), a job board (the publication of which involves a fee), a search engine for locating campaigns that have gone live over the years, as well as details on the subject events from the field.[4]

In February 2006, the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court ruled that ICE must compensate a photographer whose work was copied from him without his permission.

Until November 2009, the ICE website operated as the online version of the daily fax newspaper "Paper Tiger" published in 1991 by Yuval Sigler and dealing with the same topics.

In November 2009, Sigler sold the site to the "Guideline" group. After the purchase, ICE merged with Bizportal 's marketing and advertising website , which was launched in August 2006 in collaboration with Ifat Advertising Control. After the merger, a talkback system was uploaded on the site for the first time.

In June 2010 ICE revealed that it was behind the marketing campaign "Hate ads? Sound the horn!" which took plICE on the occasion of the launch of the renewed ICE website.

In July 2013, the technology blog "140" was merged into the ICE website and began operating there as a digital channel.

In April 2015, the site was launched with a new design, in which the new content channel "ICE Special" was also launched, which contains four sections: "Aesophish", "under 40", "relationship status" and "on ICE's account". In addition, the weekly video program was also launched "The Parade of Advertisements" hosted by Lior Naor. In July 2016, this program moved to the competing website Walla Branche and is broadcast in cooperation with the Yifat advertising control company, with Lior continuing to serve as its host.

In March 2018, the site was launched with a new design. As part of the redesign, the site's logo was changed for the first time since its inception, the new site is divided into three sections: a main title, a right strip containing news, opinion columns and video articles, and a left strip containing rating data and other tools. As part of the redesign, a new mobile site was launched.

In November 2019, Ko Minhah sold the site to the company "Yo Kela", owned by Leon Ajami, when it was initially announced that the expectation was to continue operating the site in a similar format. However, the structure of the site, the design and the topics presented in it changed during the year 2020, with the intention of focusing on the fields of economy and business. Following the changes, during 2020 some of the site's old staff members retired from it, including Alexander Katz, after serving for a decade as its editor-in-chief. On the other hand, among the writers on the website since then are Yaron Zelicha , Matan Khodorov and Yair Netanyahu. The name of the site has not changed, but the initials behind it have been adapted to the change, and are presented as "Information, Communication, Economic".[5][6]

At the beginning of 2021 , journalist Nir Kipnis was appointed editor-in-chief. Less than a month after the appointment, he unexpectedly resigned from his post.

Laice cooperates with "Yifat Media Research", "Yifat Advertising Control" and "vigo", from the Yifat Group , which owns the control of the company "Ko Menha", which previously owned the site.

"ICE" previously operated a video channel called "ICE TV", jointly with the website flix, while cooperating with the website " Tafoz Manos" and combining articles from the Bizportal website.
