Jan Vaumund Garwick (Born 31. July 1916 in Oslo, Died 18. June 1989 in Hemet, California) a Norwegian mathematics and informatiker, famous as "father of informatikkens" in Norway.

Studied in mathematics (1938) at University of Oslo, job he as assistant ( under Gunnar Randers) under Svein Rosseland at Institutt for Teoretisk Astrofysikk (1940-), there he also handled Rosseland's differential analysis. Derpå stepped he in in Norwegian Defence Research Establishment as boss for Norwegian Computing Center(1947), in partial co-operation with Gunnar Randers. He job along with approach to the problems in physics - using Monte Carlo simulation methods - for calculation at operational the diameter for "uran-stavene" Norway's first atomic reactor at Institutt for Energiteknikk, among other reasons in collaboration with it newly qualified Kristen Nygaard ( under Civilian service , 1948).
