Damaraland landscape

Damaraland is a semi-desert area with the most amazing geological landscape. The land in this area is very dry. The landscape is composed of open plains, distant mountains, grasslands, and water courses. This region is harsh in terms of temperature, geography and availbility of water and food but has very beautiful physical features. Damaraland's famous landmarks are the Brandberg mountain, Twyfelfontein, Spitzkoppe, The Petrified Forest, The Vingerklip. [1]

Northern Damaraland include Outjo, Kamanjab, Fransfontein and Sesfontein. The land is dry, but if it rains, it becomes very green. The soil in this area is red. The local people called this area "Arob" because of the red soil. Southern Damaraland include Khorixas, Uis, down south until Swakopmund. This area is mountainous with white soil with white rocks. This area is home to the Brandberg mountain which is the highest mountain in Namibia and has the famous Bushman painting, Twyfelfontein home to the bushmen encraving. Spitzkoppe - sharp mountain, The Petrified Forest is trees that were uprooted a million years ago and The Vingerklip is 35m limestone rising from the ground. [2]
