Hip-Hop Pandemic In Namibia edit

Hip-hop is one of the most famous genres in the world after RnB. It is a genre of music that is mostly listened to by the young generation. Hip-Hop originated in America but throughout the years, it spread all around the world. It is criticized by the elderly people and churches for its use of vulgar language, as a result, most parents forbid their children from listening to this genre of music. Some big names in this genre who made this genre very famous are Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur who were both murdered in the late 90s. Hip-Hop is also associated with street fights and beefs which is partly the cause of death of some of the rappers. Some churches are suspecting that Hip-Hop is evil and the devil is using it to make us do bad things. It was proven that music influences a person’s behavior and mood, thus listening to hardcore Hip-Hop makes you aggressive and prone to doing bad things.

Hip-Hop was mainly dominated by male rappers, but nowadays even females rappers are available. Some of the big names in Hip-Hop today are such as Lil Wayne , Drake , Game , Nicki Minaj , Jay-Z and Kanye West . Today Hip-Hop has also managed to spread to Africa . It is nowadays even found in Namibia which is one of the countries in Africa practicing Hip-Hop . Hip-Hop in Namibia was started in 1998 by the likes of Shikololo and Fidel .Shikololo was one of the most respected Emcee in Namibia at that time. He rose to fame mostly because he conducted rap in the most common language in Namibia , Oshiwambo .After a few years, other rappers such as Dore , Catty Catt and Kanibal also followed Shikololo's foot steps and started doing their thing too .But still, the Namibia Hip-Hop pandemic started in the mid 2005 when a rapper called Jericho made the first Hip-Hop album in Namibia . After that, other cats followed making albums and mixtapes.Today, Namibia has over 150 mainstream rappers and countless underground rappers. Some of the well known Emcees in Namibia include Kanibal, D-jay , KK , King-Rich , Quido , Don Jimmy , Catty Cat , Yungin'-Terror etc.Namibian Hip Hop is still evolving, who knows??We could just be hosting our own Hip-Hop Awards in Namibia in the near future .--ndapanda namutenya 211050318 (talk) 08:59, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
