Valentina Mila Taylor Tonkin Cowell Allen (born April 15, 1994) is an English-American-Australian actress, singer, songwriter, model, director, writer, dancer, producer, Youtuber, Tiktoker/Influencer, photographer and television personality. She is best known for her role as Hayley Potter, the younger sister of Harry Potter in the blockbuster film series (2001-2011), Athena Geller the twin sister of Ben Geller firstborn daughter of Ross Geller in Friends (1994-2004) and Brooklyn Mikaelson, the twin sister of Hope Mikaelson and daughter of Niklaus Mikaelson and her off-screen actor mother who plays her on-screen mother Hayley Marshall in The Originals (2013-2018) and Legacies (2018-).
Early Life
editAllen was born and raised in Sydney, Australia on the 15th of April, 1994. Her parents are the American-English actor Skeet Cowell-Ulrich, name Ulrich adapted from his biological american father, and the Australian actress Phoebe Tonkin. She has three brothers, one older and two younger, actors Matthew Daddario, Cody Christian, and Thomas Holland while she had two younger sisters, actresses Troian Bellisario and Camila Mendes. As her father is American-English and her mother an Australian descent, the genes makes her nationality English-American-Australian.
Allen attended Hills Grammar Private School in Sydney, Australia from kindergarten through twelfth grade, where she was the valedictorian of her class as well as captain and quarterback of her football team, captain of the cheerleading, swimming, dance, volleyball and lacrosse team. Allen at the age of 3 began taking competitive dance, her favorites including hip hop, contemporary, tap, ballet and theatere. After high school, Allen attended NYU College in America for a couple months before changing to online courses along with her siblings, Matt who graduated Indiana University Bloomington in America, Tom who graduated Wimbledon College in England, Troian who graduated Vassar Collage in America and Camila who graduated NYU Tisch School Of The Arts along with Allen. Allen graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from NYU Tisch School Of The Arts in 2016.
Career
editAllen made her acting debut in the 2001-2011 blockbuster film series Harry Potter as Hayley Potter, the younger sister of Harry Potter. In the 1994-2004 television series Friends Allen was cast at the age of 10 alongside Cole and Dylan Sprouse who shared the role as her on-screen twin brother, Ben Geller, as Athena Geller the twin kids of Ross Geller and Carol Willick in Friends. In 2009, Allen, along with her twin brother Cody Christian, little sister Troian Bellisario and the family friend through Paul Wesley, Torrey DeVitto got cast in the TV Series Pretty Little Liars, as Allen got the role of Brealynn Hatings, the middle sister. In 2011, she co-starred with Tyler Posey in the TV Series Teen Wolf as the McCall twins, Scarlett ans Scott McCall. A year later, in 2012, Allen co-starred with Stephen Amell in the TV Series Arrow as the siblings with only a year difference Oliver and Olivianna Queen.
Beginning in 2008, Allen began in the film saga Twiligt as Elizabeth Cullen, the biological daughter of Carlisle Cullen and an unknown evolved, alpha lycanthrope werewolf, meaning Elizabeth was born a werewolf. At 9, Carlisle 'died' and was forced to leave to control his urge for human blood. At 11, Elizabeth's mother died of a ripped out heart. After fending for herself for 8 years, at 19, Elizabeth was turned by a nightwalker, making Elizabeth-Lizzie for short- the first hybrid of her kind.
Even though she was cast and palyed a role in a very bad film saga, Allen was cast alongside her former co-star Taylor Lautner and her now very close friend Lily Collins in the movie Abduction as Natalie Harper, biologically Price, the twin sister of Nathan Haper and both the twin kids of Martin Price.
In January 2016, Allen was cast as Katherine Lewis in the TV series Shadowhunters based on the book series; The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. In July 2017, Allen was cast alongside Danielle Rose Russell as the teen twins of Klaus Mikaelsom and Hayley Marshall, Brooklyn and Hope Mikaelson, the trybrid twins in The Originals season 5 ad the spin-off Legacies.
Throughout the years, Allen has been casted in multiple Avengers movies as Eleanor Stark, the teen daughter of billionaire Tony Stark and super hero Black Canary, who possesses the metagene, giving her a potent sonic attack that enables her to damage and stun foes or objects to the point of shattering metal. She possesses an incredible degree of control over her vocal cords. This enables her to mimic sounds and generate any sound she desires.
As her schedual wasn't busy enough, Allen alongside her former co-star Dominic Sherwood and off-screen father, Skeet, got cast in the TV Series Riverdale. She landed the role of Forsythia Pendleton 'Cynthia' Jones IIII, older sister of Forsythe Pendleton 'Jughead' Jones III and Jellybean, Dominic landing the role of Jonathan 'Jace' Cooper, the older brother of Betty Cooper and twin brother of Polly whilst her father landed the role of her on-screen father Forsythe Pendleton 'FP' Jones II.
As the show Arrow ended in early 2020 after an eight-season run, she continues her role as Olivianna Queen on The Flash.
As she plays Olivianna Queen on The Flash, Brooklyn Mikaelson on Legacies, her schedule has not been any easier as she continues to be a singer, songwriter, model, tiktoker/influencer, director, producer, dancer and Youtuber.
As her career as a television personality, throughout the years of her very busy schedule, she has been able to squeeze in different shows as she had been casted, alongside her uncle, through her paternal grandmother, Simon Cowell, and English Television Personaöity who created the show, to X factor, American Idol, Britain's Got Talent and American's Got Talent, not to mention her apperance on the TV show Ridiculousness alongside Chanel West Coast, Steelo Brim and Rob Dyrdek.
Personal Life
editAllen started dating singer tar Zayn Malik after they met on the set of the British Reality Show X-Factor in 2010 when Malik auditioned. The couple briefly split due to a small brawl after finding out about Allen's pregnancy in late 2015, but after Allen's guest appearance in Malik's music video Pillowtalk, Malik's guest apperance on the TV show Shadowhunters as a vampire and his apperance as her role Brooklyn's love interest on The Originals before he got killed off, the two got back together. In September 2016, Allen and Malik welcomed two twin boys, who we yet are aware of the names of, to the couple who answered with 'We want them to be able to have a normal childhood, away from the pressure of fame.'. After 2018, the couple have yet to been seeen out together, reason unknown.
Allen revealed in early January 2018 that she went through personal problems through high school, resulting in an eating disorder, self-harming problems, depression, anorexia and bipolar disorder. "I had a rough high school experiance. I did go to public school but as stuff, that'll come up soon, became harder I pleaded with my parents to go to private school. My pleas were heard and accepted. I was bullied, made fun of, insulted, laughed at, by some, beaten, and whatnot. Growing up, I was very easy manipulated and much of a pushover, so I belived them. I didn't want to turn to my mother or my big brother nor the rest of my family for help, so I turned to self-harming. Cutting. As the bullying at school got more and more, the disorders I was diagnosed with got more and more serious." She said.
"I was more insulted about being fat. Which I now realize is false because in the pictures I've seen from that time, you could see my ribs clear, I barely had any skin on my ribs. Me, who was diagnosed with anorexia, started to eat less to the time where I would eat nothing but an apple a day. Very often, I wouldn't even finish the apple, I'd take almost three small bites, not beaing able to take four without feeling sick to my stomach. If I had felt like I had eaten too much, I'd lock myself in the bathroom I had connected to my room or if anywhere I was had a bathroom, stick my fingers down my throat and throw up everything and the small contents I had eaten the past 24 hours. If anyone had commented that I'd eaten too much or too little I'd throw a fit and storm away. It was easy hiding everything from everyone and my family in public school but as I attended private school, they had more health meeting which meant it got harder and harder hiding everything I had done to my body from my family." She told us when she was questioned on Ellen.
"One day at set under filming Riverdale, I was doing a scene when I fainted, my mother was called straight away when I didn't wake up after two minutes. I was rushed to the hospital and the doctors informed my family about what they had seen and examed on my body, I was informed about me fainting, it was due to low blood pressure, not eating enough and dehydration. I was barely breathing and my heartrate was too slow. My family confronted me about why I had done what I had done, and I broke. After that, my parents, siblings, friends almost everyone had expressed their concerns and I apologized because at the time, I had barely thought about who I could hurt with my actions. I slowly got over the urge to jump back into the whole I was digged in but got over it eventually. Having the boys and seeing that I had loved ones around me that I could talk to had helped greatly."
Taking the insperation to speak up from her older sister, Bellisario also spoke up about that she went through personal problems through high school, resulting in an eating disorder and self-harming problems. "I was the youngest daughter, the perfect little girl," she said. "My school was a very intense college prep school. So it was about wanting to please my father and mother, siblings, uncle and wanting to be perfect to everybody." Bellisario spoke.
