My name is Nandan Upadhyay.
You can read about my on my blog. I do research in North India. Although I am based in Varanasi but I travel extensively in India and touring is always part of my research. I have traveled in Europe as well. I have been to Hungary, Austria and Slovakia and want to develop tourism related articles of these countries as well. Please contact me if you can help me move some of the source material I have onto Wikipedia.
My interest on Wikipedia edit
- I am still learning Wikipedia but I would like to reach at the level where I can start teaching others so if you have any interest in promoting Wikipedia in my area then please contact me. I always have questions and I always need more help.
- I want to promote usage of Wikipedia amongst local people, especially student and teach them.
- I would like to develop articles related with monuments, public figures, touristic sites, cultural events, NGOs, social movements, ancient text, educational institutes etc.
- I would like to translate articles from English to Bhojpuri and Hindi but for this I need a group of people to work with me. I am specially interested in translating tourism, public figures, social movements, and health related articles. Please contact me if you have translation skills and want to be part of this project.
- I would like to donate pics to Wikimedia Commons and I am going to participate in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 contest. I would like to do it in order to promote new articles. I think that even if we can just upload a picture then someday someone will find it and make an article.
- If Wikimedia Foundation comes up with the travel guide and the old wikitravel site is replaced then I would like to start a new project specially to develop articles related with the places which don't have an article yet.
- I want to discuss about the contents on any wikipedia travel related website. I am still not sure if what kind of information should be considered as an advertisement and what not.
Wikimedia Medicine Project edit
I am working on Wikimedia Medicine project. I participate by doing translation of health related articles from English to Hindi. The project is very important as the wikipedia users are increasing rapidly in the Indian cities and of course there are so many people who do not speak any English and if we can come up with Hindi translations of English articles then it would be a huge help for those people. I am having some problems getting right Hindi words for names of diseases. Please contact me if you come from medicine field, have a Hindi dictionary for medicine or health or have any interest in developing the Hindi articles. I am also very much interested in making the language of Hindi articles as simple and colloquial as possible so that everyone can understand them. Please contact me if you are not interested in translating but just want to make a contribution by simplifying the language. For an example they had used the Hindi word उपार्जित प्रतिरक्षी अपूर्णता सहलक्षण या उ.प्र.अ.स for AIDS and मानवीय प्रतिरक्षी अपूर्णता विषाणु या मा.प्र.अ.स for HIV only until 2 weeks ago which made the article super boring and irritating. If you come from India then you must be knowing that the word AIDS is like a Hindi word for us, nobody ever uses the term उपार्जित प्रतिरक्षी अपूर्णता सहलक्षण.
