Wellington Phoenix had an arrangement with local club Wellington United for their academy players to play for the clubs first XI.[3][4] This saw Sinclair get game time during the winter, playing in the local Central Premier League.[5]

Team Wellington

edit

In 2017, Sinclair joined New Zealand Football Championship opposition Team Wellington. Sinclair had left the Wellington Phoenix to try to gain a professional contract in South Africa with Stellenbosch FC but after that fall through, Sinclair returned to New Zealand and signed with Team Wellington[6]

After winning the 2016–17 season, Team Wellington and Sinclair qualified to play in the OFC Champions League. https://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/news/team-wellington-sight-continental-crown https://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/news/team-wellington-crowned-continental-kings-earn-club-world-cup-berth https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/football-team-wellington-on-verge-of-new-football-frontier/BFDQ6CH5EZXOZJTHMDWAGQJZLM/

Sinclair was part of the team that won the 2018 OFC Champions League, playing in seven games and scoring 4 goals. This meant Team Wellington qualified for the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup. https://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/news/team-wellington-crowned-continental-kings-earn-club-world-cup-berth https://www.solomontimes.com/news/henderson-eels-looses-to-team-wellington/8977

They would meet Al Ain FC in the first round, going up 3–0 before Al Ain brought the game back to 3–3 then winning it on penalties https://web.archive.org/web/20180904192224/https://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/matches/match/300452761/#match-timeline https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/domestic/109310772/team-wellington-suffer-club-world-cup-heartbreak-in-penalty-shootout-loss-to-al-ain https://www.espn.com/soccer/lineups?gameId=529382

As the New Zealand Football Championship is played in the summer, Sinclair again played for a local Wellington club team during the winter. Team Wellington was aligned with Miramar Rangers[7] so Sinclair played for them in the same league as he played in previously with Wellington United.[8][9]

After a sucessful season with both Team Wellington and Miramar Rangers, Sinclair was named New Zealand Football Domestic Player of the Year.[10][11][12] Sinclair was also named in the top 50 New Zealand players in a list that included New Zealanders that play overseas. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/all-whites-power-rankings-the-top-50-footballers-in-nz/PFGC3XJR7BLZIIUMDUG4M6PSHU/

However for the 2020 winter season, Sinclair moved across town to play for Miramar Rangers rivals[13] Wellington Olympic AFC.[14][15]
